Trade C6 is the platform that simplifies, connects, and transforms the carbon credit market. We unite stakeholders, streamline data, and foster collaboration within a user-friendly interface, all with the goal of enhancing transparency and accessibility.
The carbon offset market lacks a centralized platform, making it difficult for users to access reliable information, verify project credibility, and connect with relevant stakeholders. As the market grows, users face confusion, time-consuming research, and poor decision-making due to scattered data, inconsistent standards, and limited transparency—especially in emerging sectors like blockchain. This complexity hinders effective engagement with carbon initiatives and alignment with individual sustainability goals.
This platform centralizes the fragmented carbon credit market—offering a verified marketplace, stakeholder networking, and integrated tools like dashboards and carbon footprint calculators. Users can easily browse, purchase, and track credits, fostering collaboration and transparency. Powered by blockchain, it ensures secure, verifiable transactions and unlocks future features like trading and promotional tools—making carbon offsetting more accessible, credible, and community-driven
Learn the business objectives
I interviewed the two founders to gain insights into their vision for the product, focusing on both short-term (1-5 years) and long-term goals. Understanding the client’s vision is crucial before diving deeper into the project to ensure alignment with their growth strategy.
I created an 8-question survey and recruited participants from the four established user types—Business Users, Individual Users, Brokers/Traders, and Verification Bodies—to gather insights into their needs, pain points, and attitudes towards a unified carbon offsetting/removal marketplace, as well as their current behaviors and tools.
The following user personas were developed based on insights gathered from user interviews and valuable feedback from stakeholders, focusing on the 4 main types of users: business users, individual users, brokers or traders, and verification bodies.
We utilized all the information gathered from user interviews to identify patterns and establish common themes related to users' goals, objectives, pains, and needs. This process helped us gain a deeper understanding of what users truly seek from the platform.
Stay business results-focused
I wanted to make sure the user goals aligned with the stakeholder goals
I used the Matrix to prioritize tasks based on their urgency and importance, ensuring focus on high-impact activities. This approach helped allocate resources efficiently while addressing critical issues and planning for long-term goals.
We went through a few rounds of card sorting both enternally and with target users. That was extremenly helpful to flesh out the information architecture
Moodboard & Visual Direction
There were 4 different moodboards initially presented to the client, and below is the one that the majority favoured. The dominant color in this direction is a fresh lime green, symbolizing sustainability, growth, and a renewed environment. White accents provide a clean and modern contrast.
Lo-fi designs
The next step in the design process was creating low-fidelity digital wireframes. This stage allowed us to explore various ideas and focus on the platform’s structure, ensuring we built a strong and logical foundation for the user experience.
We recruited 5 participants who met the 4 different type of identified target users and performed short 15 -min sessions remotely.
Managing participants expectations
I clearly explained the goals of the test, reassured participants that the focus was on the product, not their performance, and emphasized that their feedback was crucial for improving the user experience.
Before Testing
I reassured the participant that they were not being tested, encouraged them to speak aloud, and emphasized that they could express their opinions freely.
During Testing
If users became confused or asked how to complete a task, I gave them extra time and responded with, "How do you think you would..." when they directly asked for help or the answer.
Scenario
As a {CFO of a large corporation}, you're looking to offset your carbon emissions and find a meaningful project to begin. You search for projects and apply filters to narrow down your options.

High-Fidelity Wireframes
After successfully pitching the concept and securing funding, Trade C6 launched its MVP, marking a significant milestone in the carbon credit industry. Designed to address fragmentation and inefficiency, Trade C6 now serves as a centralized hub for verified carbon credits, combining marketplace functionality with stakeholder networking and real-time blockchain tracking. The platform not only streamlines credit discovery and purchase but also empowers users with data-driven tools—such as dashboards and footprint calculators—to make transparent, informed decisions. Trade C6 positions itself as a crucial infrastructure player, redefining how businesses and individuals engage with carbon markets.
What would I do differently?
1. More Extensive Testing
Given more time, I would have preferred to conduct more extensive usability testing across all key features, not just the search functionality.
Iterative feedback throughout the design process proved invaluable in refining the user experience and ensuring alignment with stakeholder goals.
Clear communication of user needs and expectations early on is essential to ensure the platform addresses pain points effectively and efficiently.
2. Clarify Scope Early On
Clear communication of user needs and expectations was vital, while the design had to remain flexible to accommodate changing technical requirements and evolving project parameters.
Regular design reviews were crucial in refining the user experience, though adjustments had to be made in response to evolving backend constraints and shifting project scope.
